And, we’re off!!

Welcome to my small corner of the blog world!  I know, I know, I know – there are already a ton of “house” blogs out there.  I hope this blog will be more than just another decorating blog, especially since I am not a decorator.  I am, however, a woman on a super-tight budget that has a sincere desire to create an oasis in my home.  Therefore, everything I do is to please myself and my family, so I may not use the most popular colors, or have the latest in home fashion design.  I work with what I have and what I don’t have, I find as inexpensively as possible.  My goal is to create in here a world where we can share ideas, resources and inspiration for our homes.

Regarding the title of my blog, Sugar Shell and Butter Knife, my dad used to tell me stories about his grandmother and how she would “swear” when something didn’t go her way.  For example, “Oh sugar shell and butter knife, I’ve done gone and burned the roast”.    She was gone long before I was born, but I’ve never forgotten these stories and hope to honor my family’s tradition of “use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without”.

I’m excited to embark on this journey with you and see where we go!

About sugarshellandbutterknife

I am a work-at-home mother of two, daughter K who is 16 and son N who is 12. I live in a 1956 mid-mod ranch with my children and the love of my life, J. We're slowly renovating our house on a budget and love all things DIY. I hope to make this a place where frugal-minded folks like myself can exchange ideas, gain inspiration and find encouragement to tackle whatever life throws our way.
