Patio Dreams

Last year our patio looked like this:

That large gray mass to the right is our little fishing boat.  It had to live on the patio until we got our trailer floor installed.  We finally got that done a couple of weeks ago and now the boat lives on the trailer, next to our shed where it belongs.  That meant our patio was finally free to be a patio.  In anticipation of the boat moving to its permanent home, we started saving for a picnic table, however, after much thought and discussion, we decided we’d really rather have a table and chairs.  We ended-up going to Lowe’s and were able to use a $25.00 off any $250.00 purchase coupon, plus I had two gift cards that totaled around $30.00, which helped immensely.  We spent at least two hours sitting, looking and debating before we decided to get the Driscol table  and these wicker-style chairs.

It looks so much better than the boat and we’ve already spent a lot more time outside simply because we have a real place to sit and eat.  This is our third summer in this house and we decided it was time to do something to the outside since we’ve focused all of our attention, time and money toward the inside.  A vast improvement I must say.

I also created this little garden near the patio table.  The previous owners had attempted to square-off the patio with some bricks and it was a mess.  I used some leftover curved edging stones from another project and rounded-off  the corner.  I think it looks much better, especially with the flamingo (a nod to our home’s 1956 birthday).

We also purchased some string lights to hang for ambience.  They look especially cool at night.

We had some friends over last night for the inaugural outing of the patio furniture and I have to say it was a hit.  We had a place to sit, talk, eat, laugh and just hang-out.  In my opinion, it was money well-spent.

What about you?  What have you done to get ready for summer fun?
