About

I’m Jenny and I’m a work-at-home mom of two, daughter K who is 15 and son N, who is 12.  I live in a 1956 mid-mod ranch with my kids and the love of my life, J.  Together, we’re slowly renovating our home on a budget and love all things DIY.  I hope this will be a place where frugal-minded folks like myself can exchange ideas and find inspiration.

Regarding the title of my blog, Sugar Shell and Butter Knife, my dad used to tell me stories about his grandmother and how she would “swear” when something didn’t go her way.  For example, “Oh sugar shell and butter knife, I’ve done gone and burned the roast”.    She was gone long before I was born, but I’ve never forgotten these stories and hope to honor my family’s tradition of “use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without”.
